Gemini was founded in 2008 by Jodie McRae, working together with Forge School Sport Partnership and King Ecgbert School to provide dance classes for the community.

Gemini aims to provide a creative and friendly environment to help students realise their full potential in dance.

Since opening, Gemini have successfully recruited more than 100 students with the intention of encouraging more students to take up after school activities. The name Gemini represents Jodie's Star Sign and is symbolised by twins. Sisters Jodie and Lucy known to family and friends as "The Twins", are the Principals of Gemini School of Dance.

Gemini offers professional tuition in Street Dance, Boys Hip Hop & Break Dancing, Freestyle, Commercial, Lyrical, Tots, Musical Theatre, Modern Jazz, Theatre Craft, Ballet, Pointe, Tap & Gymnastics. Additionally Gemini is available to provide entertaining lessons at parties and provides a range of themed classes. Gemini's Summer and Easter workshops are action packed intensive academies that are not to be missed!

Jodie McRae

Jodie McRae

Having danced since the age of five and graduating through the local dance school, Jodie spent two years studying B-tec in performing arts and A-level dance. She then moved to Spain to further her career, becoming a lead choreographer and dancer in a popular holiday resort. Since returning, Jodie has been teaching independently for many years in a number of local dance schools, primary and secondary schools and a national theatre organisation. During her time as a performer, Jodie has danced at a number of Theatre’s and Arena’s. She has also been a backing dancer for top UK artists and has worked close to some of the best performers in the industry. At 24 Jodie started up Gemini and dedicated her time to growing the business to what you see today. Alongside teaching dance Jodie is a full time mother to 2 children.

Jodie is an Associate member of the IDTA.

Lucy Smith

Lucy Smith

Lucy graduated from Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama with a Distinction in their Professional Musical Theatre Diploma. She has featured in several productions and has worked with a number of West End choreographers. She specialises in modern dance including Commercial, Street, Hip Hop and Break Dancing. Along with teaching at Gemini, Lucy is a full time mother to her little boy.

As well as being an incredible dancer & creative choreographer Lucy has been trained by some of the best vocal coaches in the industry and gained experience on an 8 month tour of South East Asia as a lead vocalist on a Royal Caribbean ship. Lucy offers private singing lessons from the age of 6.

Claire Johnson

Claire Johnson

Claire has been dancing since she was 4 years old, during which she has attended several dance schools in order to learn a variety of dance techniques and styles.  She is an Associate member of the IDTA and continues to expand her knowledge and training. Claire has performed in pantomime, at the White Rose Awards, at the The Royal Albert Hall and in Disneyland Paris. Claire has been teaching since 2012 and regularly enters students for exams. She has successfully choreographed many dance shows. She was part of the Hallam University Cheer and Jazz Team, both of which won the 2014 National Championships and Grand Champs. She is NCSSE qualified and coached one of the 2015 Hallam Dance Teams.  Needless to say Claire is extremely talented and will bring her knowledge and experience to the school. 

Pip Lockwood

Pip Lockwood

Pip is an incredibly experienced and talented dancer and teacher. She joined her local dance academy at age 12, where she learnt a variety of dance styles including street, lyrical, disco, tap and Cheerleading, this lead to her joining the teaching staff in 2008 where she began her teaching career. Pip has also studied BTEC dance in college and a BA(hons) degree in dance from The University of Lincoln. From graduating university she has taught dance in a wide range of primary schools covering all of the Yorkshire and Humber area delivering PPA sessions, after school clubs and CPD. Pip has also choreographed an performed with her own local dance company covering a variety of events, fundraisers and festivals. Pip is regularly involved in small scale projects within the local community got both children and adult. Recently she has worked with Dementia and Alzheimer's sufferers to widen her knowledge on illness and how dance can become a part of this. 

All members of staff are DBS checked and First Aid trained.
